Quality Account Acquisition for Superior Performance
While the checking account remains the cornerstone of a banks relationship with retail customers, DDA origination across the industry has slowed in recent years as the wave of Free Checking growth has subsided. Research suggests that traditional acquisition tactics are no longer economic, nor do they always generate customer accounts, offering long-term growth opportunities. In todays environment, banks are concentrating more than ever on generating quality checking accounts.Superior customer acquisition performance can lead to market-differentiating earnings growth. Given the strong relationship between customer acquisition and top-line and bottom-line performance, it is not surprising that banks are refocusing their efforts on increasing volume through targeted new customer acquisition.
Finding and acquiring quality new customers in saturated, slow-growing markets is no easy task. Retail banking executives know how critical it is to acquire new customers and how difficult it is. According to Council on Financial Competition, 75 percent of executives believe that the acquiring new customers is more important today it was only five years ago. About the Speaker
Michael Bencic has more than 20 years of banking experience in numerous roles, from product management to corporate planning. Michael is currently the Executive Director of Client Strategy for Harland Clarke Marketing Services. In this role, he leads a team of consultants who are committed to assisting banks,investment firms and insurance companies in developing and executing strategies for integrated direct marketing programs.Prior to joining Harland Clarke, Michael was a vice president in National Citys Customer Program Management group. In this role, he was responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the banks Mass Affluent and Retirement initiatives. Earlier in his career, he managed the segment and market research functions for National Citys retail line of business, which entailed developing and coordinating strategies for consumer and small business segments across all retail lines of business. In addition to implementing product development enhancements, his team led the transition at National City to a customer-driven business model and which was instrumental in developing the foundation for the current branding strategy.
Michael holds an MBA from theUniversity of Cincinnati with a concentration in finance and a bachelors degree from the University of Toledo.
